Diamond Quilt Block
The Diamond Quilt block is a traditional square. It is composed of two medium sized triangles and twenty four small triangles set together to form a quilt square. It looks very nice when assembled in two contrasting solids or a solid and a small print. The effect is supposed to be that of a faceted diamond. This traditional quilt pattern can be hand cut and pieced or it can be strip pieces from rotary cut strips. Either way it makes a spectacular quilt block.

There are other quilt blocks that have a diamond in their name, such as the Diamond Star Quilt block and the Amish Diamond Center quilt block. Other attractive quilt blocks such as the Lone Star and the Diamond Jubilee quilt blocks feature lots of diamonds, and triangles together.
The Diamond Star, for example is a quilt block that when completed has a four pointed star made of asymmetrical diamonds in the center. This star is surrounded by other diamonds and triangles. The Amish quilt, Diamond in the Center has a square set on point in the middle to form a diamond. It is sashed with a contrast color and within the block rotates so that the final border is a square. This is traditionally created with bold dark colors.
Diamond Quilt blocks can be set in many different ways and lend themselves to wonderful color play. They can be delicate and pastel or floral or they can be set in bold colors that give great graphic interest.
