Tulip Quilt Block
There are at least two versions of the pieced Tulip Quilt block. One is actually called the Trumpeting Tulip. Both are made from triangles, squares and rectangles and look very similar. The traditional version is made of eight triangle square units, with additional squares and rectangles. The Trumpeting Tulip has extra isosceles triangles that form leaves around the flower itself. Both of them feature a small square “bud” set between the petals of the tulip.

Other Tulip quilt blocks can be embroidered designs on plain background and are very pretty. Depending on your embroidery pattern the tulips can be arranged in wreaths or bouquets or other settings. Like embroidery, appliqué is an excellent way to make a Tulip Quilt block. Use small prints or use solids in coordinating colors. The Amish Tulip Quilt blocks feature very graceful looking tulips on long stems.
The Tulip Quilt Block made of triangles, squares and rectangles can be rotary cut and strip pieced. The Trumpeting Tulip does not lend itself as well to these techniques, but can be hand pieced or machine stitched. Either one is a traditional pieced quilt block that uses small portions of left over fabric or fat quarters to make its design.
The appliquéd tulips and embroidered tulips can be found in many versions. Some are stylized and would be suitable on colonial themed quilts. Others are contemporary looking and have a very modern feel. With Tulip Quilt blocks you can have a garden indoors all year long.
